Trip to Italy Posted: 2005-04-25 01:43:20Trip Date: 2004-12-26 Summary: Traveling to Rome at Christmastime is a good idea--things aren't as expensive or busy, and it isn't horribly cold. After Rome we went to Venice, which was colder but nicer. Not a lot of tourists in Venice on New Year's Eve, yet it is beautiful. New Year's Day there was a lot more open than I thought there would be, and we had the vaporetti to ourselves most of the day to tool around to the islands. Would not travel to Rome with a six-year-old again, but our son did adore Venice. He insisted upon climbing every bridge he found, and you have no idea how many bridges there are in Venice until you try that. Can't wait to get back to Venice. Rome would have been a bit nicer without child, but we enjoyed the museums and the ruins anyway, albeit a little more quickly than we would have liked. Many tourists running around St. Peter's Square with copies of Dan Brown's "Demons and Angels" looking for clues. |
