Australia is one of the best places to tan, surf and swim; Melbourne is one of the country’s most beloved cities, with multiple beaches. A number of Melbourne accommodation options are situated on the beach in order to meet travelers’ need for close proximity to the beaches; however, there are other Melbourne accommodation options to stay off the sand and simply travel to a nearby beach. Regardless of which option is chosen, locales and tourists alike flock to the beaches of Melbourne.
St. Kilda Beach is likely the city’s most popular beach. Similar to Bondi Beach, St. Kilda was developed primarily in the 1800′s and created as a beach resort and is close to the city’s centre. The wealthy were especially drawn to the beach, a trend which continues today with it’s nearby shops and cafes. Bordering the beach is a fun, family park, Luna Park.
Brighton Beach features a number of bathing boxes, which are located near the waters of Melbourne. Many people use the beach for functional purposes, such as the storage of clothes, small boats and similar water crafts and changing.
Sorrento is a great beach for surfers. This particular beach is known primarily for its waves, which also lends itself to boogyboarding. It is possible to find Melbourne accommodation options on Sorrento beach.
Virtual any beach located on the Peninsula is gorgeous. However, one of note is Dromana. Dromana is a beautiful, clean beach perfect for visitors. Like many of the beaches of this particular area of Australia, it boasts a large pier for walking and observing the beautiful water.
Bells beach is another beach which appeals to surfers. It is also home to resorts and hotels to accommodate travelers. The Easter surfers classic is held on Bells Beach and the waves measure, on average, three to four meters. On days where the waves are particularly high, they may measure five meters or more.
