Istanbul: Istanbul had been, over the course of its history, the capital of the Roman, Byzantium and Ottoman Empires. In the area populated since the Neolithic age, you can find one of the richest museums in the world in the Archeological Museum of Istanbul, situated near the Topkapi Palace. |
Antalya: Antalya is the sixth largest city in Turkey, and serves as the gateway to southern Turkey, as many tourists land there to then visit nearby towns. Antalya is home to the Antalya Archaeological Museum, the Duden Waterfall, and is near the ancient amphitheater in Aspendos. |
| Ankara: The second largest city in Turkey, the ancient Ankara mixes the old, with mausoleums and mosques like Anitkabir and Kocatepe, with the new, like Atakule Tower and the Armada shopping center. Start shopping off the Kizilay square or along Eskisehir road, explore the marketplace around the Kale, known as Ankara Castle, or get a drink at the bars and clubs around Bestekar street. Because it is the capital, Ankara can also make a great stepping off point through the middle east or even just the back country with prices a step below those of Istanbul. |

Modesty: Although Turkey was the first country to recognize a woman's right to vote, the further you get from the touristed areas, it would help you fit into the culture by covering your legs, upper arms and torso.
Bargain Hunter: Bargaining is very common on prices in stores and shops - the deals can go from good to great depending on the price and how much you haggle.
Food: Turkey invented the Shish Kebab - small bites of grilled meat and vegetables, and common foods are fish, lamb and eggplant.
Phrases: Cok Guzel means very beautiful, yes = Evet, no = hayir, hello = merhaba, please = Lütfen, thanks = mersi
Tipping: Service charges are included in hotel and restaurant bills. It is not necessary to tip cab drivers.
