 Luxembourg-Ville: Offering gardens, terraced walkways, boutiques, inviting cafes, and excellent dining, Luxembourg also has sights like the 17th century Citadelle du St-Esprit, and the 14th century towers built by the Holy Roman Emperor Wenceslas. Explore the casemates, 14 miles of underground catacombs beneath the Bock that date back to 1644, and see the Grand Ducal Palace not too far from the center of town. |
 Ardennes: Known also as the Oesling, the Ardennes are the northern reaches of Luxembourg which balance history with nature. This region reveals villages and its Romanesque churches and castles, like the schloss of Vianden, the castle at Clervaux and the Historical Museum in Diekirch, but also plateaus, rivers, valleys and forests, all easily reached by highway or train from the capital. |

Walking Shoes: Bring some good shoes, as there are many places, both in and out of the cities and towns, that can be better appreciated by walking around.

Motto: The Luxembourgian motto is 'Mir wëlle bleiwe wat mir sin' meaning 'We want to remain what we are'. Ironically, they have helped found the EU which joins together the currencies, and in part, the economies, of many European countries.
Local Culture: Locals tend to be more conservative and formal, moreso in the countryside, however, crime is very low, with only minor pickpocketing more common during the highest part of the tourist season. Learning a few words of French or German will help break the ice.
When To Visit: On the eighth Tuesday after Easter, tourists visit Echtenach for the Springprozession parade.
Food: A mix of French and German - a restaurant meal may include Ardennes ham with sauerkraut, and a pate de foie gras complemented by a locally grown Riesling or Pinot Noir.
Tipping: Restaurants and hotels generally include a service charge in the bill. It is customary to tip taxi drivers 15%.
